In 2017 I received an invitation from an art group based in the city of Turin, Italy, to make an intervention in a 19th century building that for the last 30 years remained in a state of degradation and abandonment; their project consisted of restoring the building through the collectivity. A month and a half earlier, the last earthquake had occurred in Mexico City, and although from a distance, the event influenced me as I was following the news of what was happening every day; especially, the solidarity of its inhabitants to help the reconstruction of the city and the fact that people trapped in the rubble, used the pounding on it as a sound language to warn that they were still alive.

This information led me to think and make Scandagliare, a sound action where the body, the architectural space, the destruction – construction, and the community are present in a simple and poetic gesture; reminding us of the need and strength of collective actions in our day to day to build and restore our spaces in a physical and symbolic way.
