Línea de ceniza, 2016

Línea de ceniza (Line of ash), 2016                                                                                      Glass and ash
0.8 x 150 cm

Línea de ceniza, is a piece made under the context of Trieste and refers to the dark turn that the Risiera di San Sabba took during the Nazi occupation in World War II, when it was used as a concentration camp with cremation facilities. A delicate subject in the historical memory of the city that I decided to contain in a line placed in a corner of the gallery as a metaphor for something delicate and that for many, has no place or is difficult to position.

The glass tube was filled with the ashes of the cigarettes I smoked during the period of preparing the exhibition, another way to use my body to “sculpt”; as well as generating another reference linked to the city with the smoking habit of the main character from the novel Zeno’s Conscience (written in this city) by Italo Svevo.
