Immigration act 1971, NOTICE OF REFUSAL OF LEAVE TO ENTER. 2018

IMMIGRATION ACT 1971. NOTICE OF REFUSAL OF LEAVE TO ENTER, 2018.            Bird spikes, white painting and body. 160 x 200 x 9 cm

This piece was made for an exhibition that took place in London and it reflects about the condition of travelers and borders in our present time.

For this sculpture mounted on the floor, I used bird spikes as a metaphor of protecting our spaces of animals that can fly and cross borders, therefore, they can emigrate. I took the measure of my bed to create this piece so it would make a connection with the body. The spikes are also use as a formal element, in the sense that it seems like a three-dimensional drawing with the beautiful, violent and minimalistic lines in form of a V.

The idea was to present a living sculpture, where the piece was activated every hour for 15 minutes with the presence of the body in the empty space.
