Un sasso nella scarpa, 2015

Un sasso nella scarpa ( A stone in the shoe) , 2015.                                               Time-Sculpture.                                                                                                                     Wood, shoe, sand and fan.                                                                                             Dimensions variable.

A time-sculpture where a fan sculpts sand with the shape of the log holding it. Inside the sand, a shoe.  The shoe is memory of the body; the absence of it when not worn. Within the Mexican context, the poetic action of the wind sculpting sand becomes tragic; digging in Mexican territory often unearths bodies.

After months, when the fan stops sculpting and finishes the unveiling of the shoe, one has the possibility to put together the sand, follow the mold that continues the form of the log, and start again. It becomes an exercise of burying and digging.

* Even though the sculpture was presented in Italy and I normally work in context, the theme of the exhibition was “the house”, so it was another a way to talk about my home country. Also, we cannot not ignore the role of the Italian mob.
